A Magical Victorian Art Adventure: Pre-Raphaelites, Mythology and Folklore at Tate Modern
It's the second part of Pre-Raphaelites series. This time you will explore their magnificent art at Tate Modern and learn inspiring stories behind every painting.
A young woman Elizabeth Siddall was a muse and a model for most of the pre-raphaelites. Her striking appearance and copper hair bedazzled every artist of her time. One day she was discovered by the artist Walter Deverell at the hat shop and since then her life has changed drastically. Always surrounded by artists she eventually married one of them, Dante Gabriel Rosetti. However their marriage wasn't as smooth because his family never approved him marrying a working-class woman.
She is most remembered as Ophelia painted by Sir John Everett Millais. Ophelia became a symbol for Pre-Raphaelites Movement and to create a drowning effect Lizzie posed in a bath fulled of ice water!
