Description
Meet your guide in front of South Bank Centre. Hear the background of why the impressionists left Paris and sought refuge in London to avoid the Franco-Prussian War. Learn about the undiscovered impressionist and his influences on Monet and Van Gogh.
You will then be escorted to the place where you can view the location where he painted one of his most important works. Retrace your steps along the Thames Path towards St Thomas Hospital viewpoint for many of Monet’s paintings. Hear the story of JWM Turner’s paintings of the fire which destroyed the Houses of Parliament and the mystery which has only recently been solved.
Afterwards, your guide will show you the exact locations from which James MacNeil Whistler paid his Nocturne series of paintings and explain how the paintings were so entitled. The locations for Monet’s extensive series of Westminster and Charing Cross paintings will then be visited and importance of this considerable series of works.
You will hear the story regarding Monet’s stay in the Savoy Hotel and whether he did reside in ‘the Monet Suite’.
Your guide will escort to National Gallery to view the paintings in actuality.
You will also have an opportunity to see the paintings of Sisley and Pissarro who were also resident in London during the same period.
