Description
Meet your guide in front of the Tower Hill tube station. Walk towards Tower of London, one of the most iconic castles in the World and hear stories about prisoner Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland or ‘ Wizard Earl’, whom Pocahontas visited during her stay in London. His nickname, the Wizard Earl, reflected his love of science, experiments, and all-round tinkering. Hear great stories about London’s oldest Palace and think how some people managed to escape from the Tower’s prison.
Afterwards, you will continue your way towards St Paul’s Cathedral, which was a favourite meeting place in the 17th century. It is very likely Pocahontas came to the cathedral both to worship and to meet people.
Follow your guide to the Guild Church of St Martin, where Pocahontas went to pray. The rector of the church, Samuel Purchas, was a travel writer who collected stories of people who had been abroad and wrote about Pocahontas as well. You will Stop by the site of the famous coaching inn Bell Savage, where Pocahontas stayed when she first came to London. It was also licensed as a theatre for outdoor plays including some of Shakespeare's.
Pass through the Temple church, where Pocahontas used to walk.
Follow your guide to the Banqueting House, where Pocahontas visited the King & Queen's masquerade
See Westminster Hall, which is the largest of the remaining pieces of the Old Palace of Westminster. Royals used the Hall for many public functions, and it is very likely Pocahontas was taken to see it.
See Jewel Tower, one of the few remnants of the Old Palace of Westminster. Imagine how the Palace looked like in the 17th century and hear how Pocahontas was presented to the King and Queen there.
Finish your tour by Lambeth Palace and imagine how Pocahontas danced on the ball.
